• Position Description:
  Essentially responsible for running an expansive property (15,000 sq./ft. or more), or all of the owner’s properties. Typically administrative, manage household staff, oversee all contract work performed on a property and sometime manages the owner’s travel and event schedule.

• Position Description:
  Similar to the duties of an estate manager but does not manage multiple properties. A household manager is responsible for the management and everyday running of an entire household, supervision and guidance of staff in the house, oversees all contract work performed on a property and sometime manages the owner’s travel and event schedule. The House Manager manages financial accounts, budgeting and payroll and may also organize formal entertainment and social events.

• Position Description:
  Generally in charge of one residence, the Butler supervises, organizes and often trains household staff, serves meals and drinks, answers doorbells and telephone, set and serve formal dinner table, care for the silver, china, and crystal, maintain the principal’s fine wine collection, manage the household budget, and organizes events. Perform valet duties and light housekeeping. The Butler may also schedule maintenance and staff supervision for the employer’s yacht and aircraft. Often a live-in position, this position may also require to travel with the employer. The nature of such close personal assistance requires the utmost in flexibility of schedule and duty assignment.

• Position Description:
  A valet or lady’s maid is the person who provides personal assistance to the gentleman or lady of the residence. The duties include storage and inventory of fine clothing, jewellery and personal accessories, assisting in dressing, styling hair and in getting ready for social events, performing light mending and pressing, shoe shining and light housekeeping within the gentleman's / lady's appartments. The Valet / Lady's maid will also pack and unpack for travel and serve light meals. The nature of such close personal assistance requires the utmost in flexibility of schedule and duty assignment, and so such positions are occasionally live-in.

• Position Description:
  Often shortened to Maître D. It is the person responsible for the overall dining experience and table sitting of the principal and guest’s. In charge of formal table setting, fine service and wine pairing. Offers and serves drinks, wines and spirits. Would also play a key part in serving or prepare food such as boning fish, mixing salads or desserts.

• Position Description:
  The role of a governess may change from one household to another. She may be under the supervision of a Butler, House Manager or directly from the employer. The responsibility is the overall cleaning of the house and to keep the standards of quality in order to ensure the employer’s and guests well-being. Would perform some administrative tasks.

  In charge of supervising the housekeeping staff, including the laundress. Will occasionally help and support the staff under her supervision and coordinate some tasks with the groundkeeper / caretaker. May also be asked to take care of children, meal cooking and take care of pets.
  

• Position Description:
  These important positions are primarily responsible for the hands-on cleaning tasks in the home. They will usually follow a daily routine and have good knowledge of cleaning methods and the proper use of cleaning supplies and equipment.  Good organization and ability to prioritize are essential.  Depending on the home other duties such as light food preparation, shopping and errands may become part of their responsibilities. The housekeeper / maid is supervised either by the governess, butler, house or estate manager.
  

• Position Description:
  Responsible for every aspect of clothing and linens, from cataloguing designer items to mending. Duties include washing, steaming and ironing of clothing, organizing and storing seasonal wardrobe, arranging dry cleaning, and maintaining a clothing and linen inventory. May also be responsible for organizing closets and polishing shoes. The laundress is supervised either by the governess, butler, house or estate manager.

• Position Description:
  Responsible for menu planning and preparing meals that are nutritious, and consisting of fresh and high quality ingredients. Meals also must adhere to any dietary restrictions from a member of the household. The chef may also be preparing different meals for every member of the family. Menu planning. Directs the service, presentation of meals and social events. In charge of anything food or kitchen-related: organization, clean up, shopping for all food-related supplies. May also be in charge of cooking for the staff.

• Position Description:
  Normally would assist the Chef of the household in every aspect of the kitchen. Preparing everyday’s meals, with fresh and high quality ingredients. May also be in charge of cooking for the staff.

• Position Description:
  Takes care of young children or babies. Provides a fun and stimulating environment, in addition to caring for their needs and ensuring their safety. Responsible of meal preparation, light housekeeping and clothing. The nanny could live in or out the family's home.

• Position Description:
  A tutor is a highly educated individual who fill the role of both teacher and academic mentor in a private household. The tutor will keep the children’s daily schedule, control the process of schoolwork and out-of-school studying and home tasks preparation, organization of various leisure activities at home and outdoors, daily stimulating and promoting healthy and active lifestyle, and may escort children during trips with parents or by themselves. Will also create and support a friendly atmosphere with the household staff members.

• Position Descriptions:
  The role may change from one household to another but is generally two individuals who work as a team. A couple would offer the combination of services Butler/Governess, Caretaker/Governess or Butler/Chef. Typically live in. The responsibility is the overall cleaning and taking care of the household in every aspect, keeping the standards of quality for the owner’s well being. May also supervise staff if any, or be under supervision of a House Manager. Might be asked to take care of children, meal cooking and take care of pets.

• Position Description:
  A Chauffeur will typically responsible for driving family members and guests to social and professional events. In charge of service, cleaning and every aspect of vehicle’s household. May also be required to work in the office of the employer, doing filing or faxing, and maybe even do errands. Often the hours vary, so flexibility is important.

• Position Description:
  The Groundkeeper / Caretaker will perform heavy indoor and outdoor cleaning, make sure generators and other heavy electrical equipment is properly functioning, gardening, automobile maintenance and care, trash and recycling duties, driving and pet care. May do painting, light carpentry and plumbing. May also assist housekeeper with heavier household duties, such as moving and lifting. Typically lives on grounds.

• Position Descriptions:
  In charge of the residential gardening or any other type of garden located on a roof, atrium, balcony, window box, indoor, houseplants, patio or greenhouse. Takes care of gardens, lawns, shrubs, flowers and trees among others. May supervise outside vendors, orders equipment and supplies. May work together with a landscaping designer.

• Position Descriptions:
  The groom is the one who actually takes care of daily routine for the horses. This is a position which benefits from a firm knowledge of horseflesh, a teamwork attitude and independent creative thinking. A groom spends a lot of time hands on with the animals as well as taking orders from the barn manager, foreman, trainer or trainer’s assistant. The groom would co-work with the vet and farrier, would follow supplement and medication schedule. Some employers may require a high school diploma, but beyond that this position does not require any formal schooling.

• Position Descriptions:
  A yacht stew not simply cleans and serves, they take care of the interior department’s of a five-star hotel that floats and meet the very high level service that is expected from the owners and guests. They would perform presentation of cabins and other interior spaces, personal grooming, laundry, flower arrangement. Able to take care and maintain interior fine finishes such as objet d’art, crystal and ceramics, rugs and carpets, including what to do after an accidental spillage. Would do wine service, fine food service, service styles table setting, care and presentation of different foods and beverages.
