SUMMARY
A private family residing in Westmount, Quebec, is seeking an experienced, dependable, and well-organized Housekeeper to support the daily upkeep and smooth functioning of their family home.
The household includes three children, ages 7, 5, and 3, as well as a family dog. The Housekeeper's primary focus will be maintaining an orderly, clean, and comfortable home, with particular emphasis on the daily household reset, laundry, bed-making, general cleaning, and household hygiene.
The position also includes preparing dinner for the family and providing occasional supervision of the children when required. While childcare is not the primary function of the role, the successful candidate must be comfortable assuming full responsibility for the children on the rare occasions when needed.
This position is well suited to someone who enjoys working in an active private household, takes initiative, manages priorities effectively, and understands how to keep a busy home running smoothly from day to day.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Household Reset & Organization
- Complete a daily reset of the home, restoring rooms and common areas to a clean, tidy, and organized condition.
- Make beds and ensure bedrooms are neat and presentable.
- Keep frequently used areas organized throughout the day.
- Maintain appropriate household hygiene standards, particularly in kitchens, bathrooms, and high-use areas.
- Perform basic daily cleaning and address household needs as they arise.
- Help maintain a comfortable, orderly, and functional environment for the family.
Laundry & Clothing Care
- Manage the family's daily laundry, typically approximately 3–4 loads per day.
- Wash, dry, fold, and put away clothing, linens, towels, and other household items.
- Ensure laundry is handled appropriately according to garment and fabric care requirements.
- Maintain an efficient laundry routine to keep pace with the needs of an active family household.
- Perform ironing as required; strong ironing skills would be considered a valuable asset.
Meal Preparation
- Prepare dinner only for the family, with meals generally ready by approximately 5:15 p.m.
- On occasion, have dinner ready earlier, at approximately 4:30 p.m., depending on the family's schedule.
- Prepare simple, family-appropriate meals according to preferences and instructions.
- Occasionally wash, cut, and prepare fruits and vegetables for snacks or future use.
- Leave the kitchen clean and organized following meal preparation.
Occasional Child Supervision
- Provide occasional supervision of the family's three children.
- On rare occasions, act as the responsible adult in the home when the parents are unavailable.
- When responsible for the children, prioritize their safety, supervision, and immediate needs above all housekeeping or household duties.
- Be comfortable interacting appropriately and confidently with young children.
Dog Care
- Be comfortable working in a household with a dog and assisting with its daily routine.
- Take the dog for one short walk during the day.
- Provide an additional walk of approximately 20 minutes toward the end of the work day.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Previous professional housekeeping experience, ideally within a private household.
- Must be fluent in English.
- Strong laundry skills and knowledge of appropriate garment and fabric care.
- Ability to manage a high volume of daily laundry efficiently.
- Comfortable preparing simple family dinners.
- Ironing skills are considered a strong asset.
- Comfortable around children and capable of assuming responsibility for three young children when occasionally required.
- Comfortable with dogs and willing to provide daily dog walks.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to identify priorities and work independently without constant direction.
- Reliable, punctual, discreet, and trustworthy.
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of an active family household.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, hygiene, and detail.
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday to Friday – Full-Time
The position follows a late-morning to early-evening schedule:
Start time generally between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
End time generally between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays: availability until 7:30 p.m. is required
Fridays: the workday will generally finish earlier, depending on household needs

The ideal candidate is proactive, efficient, and comfortable working in a busy family environment. They understand that the role is not simply about cleaning, but about helping restore order to the home each day and ensuring that laundry, bedrooms, common areas, dinner preparation, and other daily household needs are consistently taken care of.
The successful candidate will also understand how priorities can shift in a private household. In the occasional situation where they are responsible for the children, their full attention will shift to the children's safety and supervision, with household tasks temporarily taking secondary priority.
