The Private Chef

WHAT IS A PRIVATE CHEF?

Here’s a common description of this profession:

  • Also known as Personal Chef.
  • Responsible for menu planning and preparing daily meals, also for
    special events and entertaining.
  • Must take into account family members’ dietary restrictions.
  • May prepare different meals for different household members and guests.
  • Oversees the service, plate presentation and overall kitchen area.
  • In charge of anything food or kitchen-related: organization,
    cleanliness, shopping for supplies.
  • May also be in charge of other kitchen staff.
  • Work in team with the service staff (e.g. Butler, Maître
    d’Hôtel, other service staff).
  • Formally trainied in a reknowned culinary school.
  • Report to the House Manager or directly to the principal.

Salary range: $100,000 to $200,000+

The Private Cook

WHAT IS A PRIVATE COOK?

Here’s a common description of this profession:

  • In charge of planning, preparing and serving healthy everyday simple
    meals.
  • Manages every aspect of the kitchen, including grocery shopping and
    storage management.
  • No formal training is required.
  • Report directly to the principal.

Salary range: $70,000 to $90,000+
